We spent a day in a barn and think you should too

Many companies have an ‘away-day’ – it can be a good way to foster better working relationships, explore creative ideas and have much-needed time out of the office. This year The Liminal Space took it up a notch and had our team test-run the new type of away-day experience that we now offer to our clients – a Reimagining Day.

We hosted our team Reimagining Day at a converted dairy farm on the edge of the Somerset levels which provided the perfect, informal setting for colleagues to relax and bond. It also offered one key element: space – a lot of space – for teams to explore big ideas, have big conversations and get involved in big experiences.

For us, a Reimagining Day also goes hand-in-hand with the great outdoors, offering up the potential for dipping toes in the stream, sitting out under the stars and generally being as out-of-office as possible.

The day involved a series of sessions tailored to our team’s specific needs. But one thing that really stood out was the future.

Sensing the future was a session in which we worked together to forecast trends for the upcoming year. What topics will stay with us and which ones will make their way up the agenda? How will a new government impact the way we think about these topics? Perhaps not at all?

One theme that kept popping up was interoception, which at its most basic level can be defined as the sense that allows us to answer ‘How do I feel?at any given moment. As the stratospheric rise of big tech and AI continues, we are scrambling to preserve our own identities and answer that seemingly unanswerable question - what does it mean to be human? Here at LS, we have no doubt that interoception will be a key part in unlocking the answer.

As we talked about the future, we discussed how new economic systems will impact business and society. In an already tumultuous economy, what would a shift away from capitalism look like? What do new forms of trade and reward look like in a just transition ? And how can we use our creative skills to enable understanding and participation?

With Our Famous Project no idea was too ambitious – we brainstormed the ideal projects for us to embark on in the coming year that would perfectly align with our company values and speak to our trend predictions. From tackling the impact of the mass availability of Ozempic on body image to building a national movement for water awareness and security, re-imagineering the rental marketplace to disrupting disinformation around sexual wellbeing, we dreamed up new ways to create routes into these complex and multifaceted topics in meaningful ways.

If you’re grappling with the future, or have a topic you want to tackle but just don’t know where to start, please get in touch. Or if you would like a Reimagining Day to inspire your team, we’d be happy to help!
